Brazil, Germany to Boost Bilateral Economic Ties

BRASILIA – The Brazilian Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Miguel Jorge and his
German colleague of Economy and Technology Rainer Brüderle analyzed Tuesday here broadening bilateral ties.
Both ministers headed the delegations of businessmen from their respective nations interested in discussing measures to increase German participation in the infrastructure work of the Program for the Acceleration of Growth (GAP).
Germans have showed special interest in investing in the High Speed Train plan projected to link Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the two main cities in this huge South American country as well as the works for the World Football Cup 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games, among others.
Official statistics show that after a reduction of trade between Brazil and Germany in 2009 due to the international financial crisis that started in 2008 bilateral exchange has evidently recovered during the first quarter of 2010.
Brazilian exports to the European nation reached 1.62 billion during the first three months of 2010, representing a 31.7 percent growth if compared with the same period of 2009 with 1.23 billion dollars.
The main branches of bilateral commercial ties are mechanic engineering, car industry, electronics and chemical and pharmaceutical products.
Energy, infrastructure, security, medical attention and production and exploration of oil and gas have gained space in the last few years.
Finally German investments in Brazil significantly grew in 2009 if compared to 2008, going from 1.30 billion dollars to 2.47 billion that represented a 138.5 percent increase.
